Remembering… Wilma Jean Wanek died Monday, February 9, 2015 at Salina Regional Health Center at the age of 87. She was born on November 4, 1927 to Clark and Clara (Herbel) Casper in rural Russell County. On July 20, 1946 she was united in marriage to Raymond Wanek in Norton, Kansas. They were blessed with 3 children, Diana, Beverly and Alan. She spent many years as a cook at the Wilson Grade School and Wilson Nursing Home where she retired. In her earlier years she owned and operated the Travel Inn Restaurant in Wilson. Wilma enjoyed doing puzzles, having a good game of cards with friends and family, playing games, and reading. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Survivors include a son, Alan Wanek and wife Shirley of Hutchinson; daughter, Diana Brooks and husband Burl of Girard, Kansas; brothers, Elmer Casper and wife Ida of Lucas, Don Casper and wife Maxine of Russell and Eugene Casper of Luray; six grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandchildren; and 2 step great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clark and Clara Casper; husband, Raymond; daughter Beverly Kraus and great-granddaughter, Sondra Kraus. Wilma was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her Lord, her family, and her friends. She was always full of life, laughter, and fun. She will be greatly missed as her legacy lives on, for generations to come, in the hearts and lives of all who loved her.
