William Norbert Albers was born February 6, 1922 to Theodore and Anna (Beckman) Albers at the family home in Angelus, Kansas. He passed away Thursday evening, September 13, 2012, at his home in Hoxie, at the age of 90. Bill attended school near Angelus and later enlisted in the United States Army were he served in the Philippines and Japan during World War II. He served as an MP during the war. While in training in Great Falls, Montana, before going overseas, he met his future wife Dolores Franklin. They were united in marriage on August 6, 1946 in Angelus, Kansas. Bill farmed for many years near Hoxie and worked for the Sheridan County Road and Bridge Department as a Road Grader. He loved his years spent farming and managing his dairy, and that love continued in his gardening. At times he would have three gardens going. In his early years, Bill enjoyed, and was very good at, playing pool. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles with buddies in the hills, hunting and fishing. He was able to craft many beautiful things from wood. Bill was a faithful member of the St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church and lifetime member of the Wheatland V.F.W. Post #2864 in Grinnell. He is survived by son, John Albers and wife Mindy of Muncie, Indiana; two daughters, Marcia Bingham and husband David of Hoxie and Kathleen Ford of Wichita; sisters, Cleon Heinrich of Oakley and Louella Travis of Oklahoma City; 9 grandchildren, Jeremy Bloom, Russell Bloom, Sarah Thummel, Stephanie Thummel, Jeffrey Albers, Cody Albers, Erin Albers, Grace Albers & Jamie Delaney; 6 great-grandchildren, Brandon Bloom, Brian Gellinger, Anthony Albers, David Albers, Colton Whitney & Cyus Whitney; and 2 great-great-grandchildren, Dylan Bloom & Kinleigh Bloom. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore wife Dolores; son, William Albers and ten brothers and sisters, Helen Reitcheck, Martin Albers, Mary Kamphaus, Anna Buss, Edward Albers, Gerhart Albers, Christina Schiltz, Elizabeth Wolf, Alfred Albers and Eileen Meis. Those we love are never really lost to us for everywhere their special love lives on.
