Wilfred “Willie” Paul Hamel, 88, died Sunday, April 20, 2014 at Dawson Place Nursing Home, Hill City. He was born January 15, 1926 at Damar, KS to Alex and Elsie (Thibault) Hamel. He married Wilma (Glass) Prickett on February 8, 1980. She died November 2, 2003. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954. He lived most of his life in the Damar and Plainville area, working in the oilfields and as a farmhand. He enjoyed coon hunting, attending auctions, and visiting with family and friends. He was known as “Uncle Willie” to 56 nephews and nieces, as well as their spouses and descendents. He is survived by a step-son, Joe Prickett, Wichita, a step-daughter, Norene Reed, Greeley, CO, a brother Jasper Hamel, Hays, and two sisters, Lucille Thomie, Bettendorf, IA and Ida Mae LeSage, Hays, 13 step-grandchildren, 24 step-great-grandchildren, 22 step-great-great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a step-son, Don Pricket of Hoxie, eight brothers, Francis, Ed, Bert, Art, Bernie, Al, Louis, and Emery, two sisters, Alma Waldron and Edna Haag, and infant twins, brother and sister, Olive and Oliver. He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
