Wilbur Dee Sammons, 88, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 10, 2016 at his home in Kansas City Kansas. He was born December 1, 1927 in Webster, Kansas to Vernon and Agnes (Biery) Sammons. He grew up on a farm, graduated high school in Stockton Kansas and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Dee spent 42 years in the food business working 25 years for Fairmont Foods Company (dairy) and 17 years for IBC, Interstate Bakery Company, retiring in 1988. On February 24, 1946 he was united in marriage to Wanda Mae VanHorn in Stockton, Kansas. They are the parents of three children; Judy, Patty and the late Van. Survivors are Wanda of the home; two daughters, Judy Schmitter (Steve), Wichita, Kansas, Patty Brown (Bob) of Kansas City, Kansas; daughter-in-law Becky of Canton, Georgia; one sister, Wanda Cramer (Dr. A.D.) of Oro Valley, Arizona; eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Van Dee; and two brothers, Ted of Hays Kansas and Ron of Seattle, Washington. Services will be at 2:00 pm, Friday, February 5, 2016 at Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home in Stockton, KS. Inurnment will take place in the Stockton Cemetery at a later date.
