Funeral services for Vyrl LeSage, age 86, of Concordia, formerly of Stockton, will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 22, 2010 at the Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home in Stockton with Reverend Elton Hunter officiating. Mr. LeSage passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at his home in Concordia. He was born December 27, 1923 in Rooks County the son of Charley and Daisy (Ochampaugh) LeSage. Vyrl graduated from Stockton High School and served his country in the United States Army during WWII. Vyrl’s service in WWII included carrying a rifle across France, Alsace Loraine, Luxemburg, and Belgium. His military career ended when he was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium. From 1947 – 1954 he worked at a cream station called LeSage Produce. From 1954 – 1962 he was a milkman for Meadow Gold. From 1962 to 1970, he worked for the Federal Crop Insurance Company and from 1970 – until his retirement in 1978; he was the owner of the Concordia Credit Bureau in Concordia. Vyrl was a life member of the Monroe-Taylor-Barnes VFW Post #8873, life member of the American Legion in Stockton, and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. On June 26, 1949, he married Charlotte Foley in Zurich. She passed away July 24, 1993. Survivors include his brother Dean LeSage of Hays; sisters Nola Odle and Zola Tolman both of Overland Park, Kansas; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Charlotte and his parents. Burial with military honors provided by the Monroe-Taylor-Barnes VFW Post #8873 will be in the Stockton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 Friday and from 9 – service time Saturday at the Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the organization of the donors’ choice and may be sent in care of the Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home, 723 N. First, Stockton, Kansas 67669.
