Verlie Marlene (Friesen) McGough passed away Thursday, September 17, 2015 at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 79. She was born on August 26, 1936 in Halstead, Kansas to the late Ike and Hilda (Dick) Friesen. She graduated Valedictorian from Plainville High School with the Class of 1954. On December 10, 1955 Verlie was united in marriage to Harley Gray McGough at the First Baptist Church in Plainville, Kansas. They were blessed with three children, Doug, David, and Dawn. Verlie was a woman of strong faith, hope, and love with a sweet, quiet, and gentle disposition. As a loving wife and mother, she always sought to train up her children in the way they should go so as they grew, they would not depart from it. She was the first pianist at the church and also served as their bookkeeper. In addition, she composed music for the church and wrote poetry. A great believer in the power of prayer and daily devotions, she was a formidable prayer warrior for any needs of family, friends, and neighbors. Verlie is survived by her sons Doug McGough and wife Peggy of Overland Park, and David McGough and wife Tonya of Topeka; daughter Dawn Rempe and husband Tony of Cartersville, GA; sister Letty Lynch and husband Cliff of Independence, MO; grandchildren Julie and Colin Ruff, Cindy and Luke Scott, Tyler McGough, Sadie McGough, Cameron McGough, Lance Rempe, and Logan Rempe; and great-grandchildren Elodie Ruff, Kinley Scott, Sylvie Ruff, Maylie Scott, Felicity Ruff, Wade Harley Scott, Rosalie Ruff, and Boone Douglas Scott. She was preceded in death by her parents Ike and Hilda Friesen, and her husband Harley McGough. For Verlie, faith was not just a way of life, it was life. Her love for all people, most especially her family, was second only to her love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She will continue to inspire us as she set for us a daily example of what it means to truly walk by faith. Simply put, she lived it, she didn’t just say it, and it will impact her loved ones for generations to come.
