Verlene Harrison passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Society of Hays, Kansas at the age of 85. She was born in Rural Ellis County, Kansas on September 18, 1928 to John and Cora (Mock) Carmichael. Verlene graduated from Plainville High School with the class of 1946 and went on to attend Fort Hays State College for one year. She was united in marriage to LeRoy Harrison on February 18, 1947 in Hays, Kansas. They were blessed with four children, Dennis, Diane, Kirk, and Kim. Verlene was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker. Her family was her world, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to family, she loved music, and herself played the piano at home for personal joy and reflection. She also spent time in her flower gardens, and enjoyed working with the Dorcas Ladies of her church. Survivors include sons, Kirk Harrison and wife Rhonda of Plainville, Kim Harrison and wife Gretchen of Leawood; daughter, Diane Harris of Hays; brother, Elmo Carmichael of Hays; eight grandchildren, Greg Harris of Hays, Travis Harrison of Elk City, OK, Mitch Harris of Hays, Seth Harrison of Topeka, Annie Norris of Lees Summit, MO, Jenny Harrison of Topeka, Kellyn Harrison of Manhahttan, and Cole Harrison of Leawood; and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Cora Carmichael; husband, LeRoy Harrison; son, Dennis Harrison; brothers, Roy and Orlan Carmichael; sister, Lucille Burris; and son-in-law, Kenny Harris. Verlene was a woman of deep faith, whose love for God, family, and friends leaves a legacy that will be passed on for generations to come.
