Sylvia Arlene Atherton passed away Saturday, November 10, 2012 at the Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton, Kansas at the age of 92. She was born November 4, 1920 to Bob and Ella (Hatfield) Sammons in Rooks County, Kansas. Sylvia attended elementary school at a rural school near Webster and graduated from Webster High School in 1937. She was united in marriage to Charles “Bud” Atherton December 6, 1939. Charles passed away in 2001. Sylvia was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Phillipsburg, Solomon Valley Antique Engine & Machinery Association, Stockton Liberty Sewing Club and the Exercise Club on Bow Creek. Sylvia enjoyed cooking and having family dinners. She loved her home and her family. She will be missed by her son Alvin Atherton and wife Sharon of Stockton; daughter Arloa Shaw and husband John of Glade, KS; 5 grandchildren, Teresa (Bob) Glendening, Darrin (Trinity) Atherton, Kevin Shaw, Joni (Steve) Ellenberger and J.P. (Wendy) Shaw; 9 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren; and little friend Destiny Preceding Sylvia in death are her parents Bob and Ella; husband Bud; infant son Glenn Leroy; infant twin-great-grandchildren Lauren Renee and Johnny Lee Shaw; brother Glen Sammons; and sister Marvel Andrews. Precious memories of Sylvia will live on forever and will help ease the pain in the hearts of her friends and family. Treasure the memories always.
