Steven Lee Schemm

May 15, 1987 — December 16, 2024

Steven Lee Schemm passed away on December 16, 2024, at his home in Stockton, KS, at the age of 37. He was born on May 15, 1987, to Kevin and Lisa (Griebel) Schemm in Wichita, KS. He married Cassie Chandler on June 29, 2019.

Steven grew up in Kent, Washington, and graduated from Kentridge High School in 2005. After attending college at Washington State University, Steven spent years trying to find his life’s purpose. During his search for his true calling, he loved his family and extended family- relying on their love and strength to keep him going. Returning to his supportive extended family roots in Stockton, he discovered his purpose when he met the love of his life, Cassie Chandler. His steadfast commitment to Cassie and their daughter, Penelope, formed the foundation for his positive life choices. He worked hard at Wilkens Manufacturing in order to provide for his family and worked out religiously at the Stockton Rec Center. Strength training and bodybuilding served as a way to commit to self-improvement and an outlet for his desire to continue to challenge himself. When he wasn’t working out, he was relaxing with his family and their rescue dog, Hercules.

Underneath his shaggy beard and imposing muscles, was a heart of gold and subtle prankster. Steven loved watching anime and playing video games with his daughter, Penelope. He enjoyed spending time with his wife Cassie, going on tattoo-date nights, and watching The Office. Introducing Cassie to his favorite movies and streaming shows was an activity they enjoyed together. They explored when possible, traveling to California, Oregon, Washington, and Colorado. Though they called Kansas home, Steven remained close to his family in Washington, keeping in touch with his mom, dad, and sister through phone calls and messages. Despite the distance, he kept the bond alive daily with playful comments, funny memes, and amusing GIFs.

Steven is survived by his parents, Kevin Schemm and step-mother, Linda of Suncadia, WA and Lisa Griebel and step-father, Doug Mosebach of Ocean Shores, WA; wife, Cassie and daughter, Penelope Chandler of the home in Stockton; grandmas, Janet Jacobsen of Kent, WA and Donna Griebel of Stockton; sisters, Devin Thorpe of Duvall, WA and Jenna Schemm of Suncadia, WA; and new niece Olivia Austin Thorpe.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Harold and Ann Schemm, and John Griebel.
