Ruth Elaine Taylor passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Hays Medical Center at the age of 76. She was born in Tasco, Kansas March 11, 1936 to Walt R. Hyde and Mary "Mae" Cunningham. Ruth was united in marriage to Wayne "Red" Taylor November 3, 1951 at the Sheridan County Courthouse. To this union 5 children were born: Lana, David, Randy, Russ, and Ross. Ruth owned and operated Red's Kerr McGee Station with her husband Wayne. They also ran the Sheridan Inn Restaurant, Pix Theatre, and Red's Pool Hall. She also worked at the hospital and nursing home for many years. Ruth had a love for music and it was a big part of her life. She and her husband Red had a band and played together for many years. In the earlier days they played at dances in many different places with some of their friends and relatives. As of late they played in senior living centers in towns all around. She also sang with Red in church. Her music brought joy and peace to many. Ruth also loved puzzles, crocheting, and gardening. She was the best grandmother ever. Left to cherish Ruth's memory is her husband Wayne "Red"; sons David Taylor (Kathy) of Sylvester, Georgia, and Russ Taylor (Helen) of Lyndon, Kansas; daughter Lana Anderson of Colby, Kansas; brothers Darrel and Ralph Hyde both of Hoxie; sister Wilma Bieker (Julius "Curly") of Hoxie; 10 grandchildren Dalene Gilbert (Jason Robben) of Oakley, Kansas, Darci Kauffman (Dustin) of Centennial, Colorado, Tonya Robinson (Jess) of Goodland, Kansas, Shannon Tyler (Scott) of Lincoln, Nebraska, Amaris Taylor of Lincoln, Nebraska, Landon Taylor of Hays, Kansas, Ashton Taylor of Hays, Kansas, LaShae Reece (Ron) of Emporia, Kansas, Jancie Taylor of Emporia, Kansas, and Allison Taylor of Lyndon, Kansas; 5 great-grandchildren, Trevor Albers, Aaron Robinson, Stella Kauffman, Ashlyn Taylor, and Jayden Taylor. Preceding Ruth in death are her parents, son Randy Taylor, and infant son Ross Taylor. Ruth was a treasure of the heart, and to lose her is like losing a piece of ourselves. But the love that Ruth brought did not leave us, for the essence of her soul lingers. It cannot escape our hearts, for it has been there forever. Reception: First Christian Church
