Ruby G. Jackson

November 22, 1930 — January 1, 2018

Ruby Grace (Glodfelty) Jackson passed away Monday, January 1, 2018 at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas at the age of 87. She was born on November 22, 1930 in Woodston, Kansas to the late Irving and Blanche (Cook) Glodfelty. She attended Excelsior country school for eight years before graduating from Woodston High School with the Class of 1948. She went on to receive her degree in elementary education from Fort Hays State College. On December 17, 1955 she was united in marriage to Wesley Jackson in Stockton, Kansas. Though they had no children of their own, they were blessed with numerous nieces and nephews who were very dear to them. Ruby taught school for 14 years in different Kansas schoolhouses including IGO, Pleasant Valley, Webster, and Speed, before giving up teaching in order to follow her husband with the oilfield throughout Wyoming and Montana. During that time she worked as a substitute teacher in several schools before they decided to move back to Kansas in order to be near family and friends. While back in Kansas Wes continued in the oil patch while Ruby found work at different places in Stockton. She worked for H.C. Sweet at Charles Hageman Abstract Co., Rooks County Treasurer’s Office, the grocery store, and her favorite, the Rooks County Sheriff’s Department as a dispatcher, from which she retired. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, V.F.W. Auxiliary, and very proud to be a Red Hat Society lady. Ruby is survived by her sister Dorothy Dibble of Osborne; and nieces and nephews Kent Chesney, Judy and Steve Blecha, Keith and Patty Chesney, Kevin and Sherri Chesney, Karen and Dave Nowlin, Marsha and Keith Doane, Jim and Sherry Dibble, Don and Beverly Silvers, Carolyn and Mike Bruyr, Sandra and Gary Chard, Valerie and Rusty Fuzzell, Darin and Sherry Folsom, Anne and Richard Rokeby, Avonne and Clint Anderson, and Alice and Brad Glendening. She was preceded in death by her parents Irving and Blanche Glodfelty; husband Wes Jackson; brother Herbert Glodfelty; sisters Leona Silvers, Wanda Chesney, and Rosilee Folsom; and niece Connie (Chesney) Melton. It has been said, “If you’re not having fun, you’re doing it wrong.” Ruby lived her life to the fullest, giving her all to family, friends, and community; and never losing an opportunity to lift up and encourage others. She showed us by her daily example that it’s never a bad idea to dress in purple, take a “recess” from the cares and duties of everyday life, and gather with friends for no other purpose than to enjoy each other’s company and have fun. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Memorials are suggested to the Rooks County Health Center Foundation or United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, 723 N 1st Street, Stockton, KS 67669.
