Ronald L. William, age 88, of Hoxie, died December 6, 2012, at the Sheridan County Health Complex. He was born on November 29, 1924, near Hoxie in Sheridan County, Kansas, the son of Lorenzo and Ada Selbe William. Ronald attended both grade and high school in Hoxie. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theater. His medals include 2 Bronze Stars, the American Theater Ribbon and the World Wide Victory metal. After the war he married Frances A. Richter on April 22, 1946. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and remained a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hoxie. To this union 3 sons were born: Larry A., Ronald W., and Victor P. Ronald worked as a service station attendant and later managed a station. He worked as a house painter along with serving as Deputy Sheriff for several years before joining the city of Hoxie as superintendent for which he served for 25 years until he retired. He served as treasurer for the building committee when the Lutheran Church was built in Hoxie, was a member of the VFW and served as chairman for several years. He also served as volunteer fireman for most of his life. He enjoyed woodworking as a hobby, building items for his grandchildren and others. He almost always had a garden no matter how little rain fell from the sky. Ronald is survived by his wife Frances; sons, Larry and wife Susan of Topeka, and Victor and wife Lila of Overland Park, Kansas; 3 Grandchildren, Scott of Leawood, Kansas, Alison( Matt) Thomas of Overland Park, and Paul (Jackie) of Overland Park; 5 great-grandchildren who always made him smile, Sydni and Zoe William, Henry and Felix William, and Margo Thomas; brother, Donald (Helen) of Hoxie; sister, Myrtle (Ray) Prussner of Illinois; and brother-in-law Harold (Arvella)Taylor of Studley, Kansas. Ronald was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ina Taylor (Harold), and Norma Ackerman (Gilbert); and son, Ronald W. “Ronnie”, who died in the Vietnam conflict.
