Ronald D. Joslyn

April 15, 1939 — November 6, 2016

Ronald D. Joslyn passed away Sunday, November 6, 2016 at Gove County Medical Center in Quinter, Kansas at the age of 77. He was born April 15, 1939 in Concordia, Kansas to the late Lee A. and Velma G. (Young) Joslyn. He grew up in Concordia and graduated from Concordia High School with the Class of 1957. He was united in marriage on April 12, 1958 to Karen Vignery in Concordia. Together they made their home in Concordia and raised a family of four children. Recently they celebrated their 58th Anniversary. Ron worked as a floor covering technician, a carpenter, and route driver for several companies, but the part he enjoyed the most was working with customers. At the age of forty-two, Ron had surgery and lost his voice. A few years later he moved to Colorado to work in a factory and in 1986, after all the children had graduated from high school, the family joined him in Colorado. After retiring in 2002, Ron and Karen made their final move to Hoxie, Kansas to be near family. Ron loved camping and fishing, and the family remembers many weekends spent along the river angling for catfish. Of course all the kids learned how to seine for bait. Whenever the family traveled, he loved to take the back roads to enjoy the scenery and the peaceful drives. He was a great sports fan and especially liked watching his kids play. In addition, he was a TV and John Wayne movie buff, having seen many of his movies more than once. Ron is survived by his wife Karen of the home; son Mark Joslyn and wife Ladonna of Hoxie; daughter Trish Nordquist and husband Rob of Hoxie; son-in-law Glenn Hazel of Longmont, CO; sister Deborah Kubes of MN; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kelley Hazel and son, Mike Joslyn. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00am Thursday, November 10, 2016, at the Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home in Hoxie. There will be no visitation. Burial will follow in the Hoxie City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Hospice Services of Phillipsburg or Sheridan County EMS and may be sent in care of Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, P.O. Box 987, Hoxie, Kansas 67740. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mickeyleopoldfuneral.com Ron had a great sense of humor, was stubborn, determined, and strong. His strength and character was evident as he faced health concerns, and has been a constant source of inspiration and encouragement for family and friends. His love will continue to strengthen us, as our love for him continues to endure forever.
