Roger A. Hill

Roger A. Hill, 64, of Wilson, Kansas passed away June 16, 2016 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. Born June 29, 1951 in Ellsworth, Kansas he was the son of Harvey and Alice (Kral) Hill. He grew up in Wilson, attending school and graduated with the Class of 1970. After high school, he was drafted by the United States Army and served in Vietnam. He then returned to Wilson and went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad Maintenance of Way. Around this time, he met, fell in love with and was united in marriage to Nancy Jo Heironymus on June 9, 1974 in Geneva, Nebraska. This union was blessed with two children: April and Jonathon. They later divorced. On October 16, 1993, he married Joleen Duryee and together they made their home in Wilson. He was working as a courier guard for Pony Express until his health declined. Roger was a life member of the Russell V.F.W. Post 6240. He enjoyed helping area farmers and watching old western movies but what brought him the greatest joy was his children and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife Joleen, a daughter, April Bucek and husband Alan, of Prosper, Texas , a son Jonathon of The Colony, Texas, sisters Patricia Schnur and husband Bob of Butler, PA, Bonnie Buehler of Russell, KS, Virginia Mitchell and husband Fred of Great Bend, KS, Terry Soukup and husband Gerald of Wilson, KS, a brother Mark Hill and wife Debra of Wilson, KS, step sons Daren Kingsbury of Ellsworth, KS and Joshua Kingsbury of Victoria, KS, step daughter Denia Lutz and husband Scott of Wilson; eight grandchildren: Aaron Hill, Molly Bucek, Katy Kingsbury, Henry Kingsbury, Wyatt Kingsbury, Kylie Kingsbury, Kourtney Boxberger, and Kaylee Boxberger. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother Harvey Jr. Memorials have been established with American Legion Post 262 or Active Christian Teens and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
