Rocky Lynn Hamblet, of Plainville, Kansas, passed away on September 10, 2026, at The University of Kansas Health System in Kansas City, Kansas, at the age of 70. He was a devoted husband, father, Papa, uncle, and friend whose family was at the center of everything he did.

Rocky was born on July 28, 1956, to Elmo and Verna Dene (Preble) Hamblet in Plainville, Kansas. He grew up in Plainville and graduated from Plainville High School in 1975. After high school, Rocky attended aviation school, but it wasn’t long before he realized how much he missed home. He returned to Plainville and began working at McDonald Tank. He later worked at Schult Mobile Home, owned the local pool hall, and eventually became a truck driver for Coffeyville, where he worked until his retirement.

Rocky married Kayla Rose Bobek on March 26, 1982, and their marriage was blessed on June 24, 2024. He shared 44 years of marriage with Kayla, and together they raised their three children, Lindsey, Lacey, and Landon.

Rocky enjoyed fishing, riding motorcycles, skiing, playing golf, cheering on his beloved Kansas City Chiefs, and attending concerts. He also loved taking a ride in the rain, finding a simple joy in getting out on the road and enjoying the weather. He brought enthusiasm to everything he enjoyed and was well known for his sense of humor, jokes, and magic tricks. Rocky always seemed to find a way to make those around him laugh.

But anyone who really knew Rocky knew that his greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren. Being Papa to Tripp, Twynn, Jhett, Noaa, Navee, and Avery was a role he treasured more than anything. He was incredibly proud of each of them and wanted to be a part of whatever they were doing.

Rocky especially loved watching Tripp and Twynn play ball and spent countless days in the stands cheering them on. Through all those years at ballfields and gyms, he formed many treasured friendships with their teammates, families, and coaches. He truly valued those relationships and came to love his grandkids’ friends and teammates as his own.

Rocky will be remembered as someone who always showed up for the people he loved. His family and friends will forever miss his jokes, his laughter, his presence, and, most of all, the unconditional love he gave so freely.

Rocky is survived by his wife, Kayla Hamblet of Plainville; children, Lindsey Base-Hamblet (Nick) of Castle Rock, Colorado, Lacey Sweeney (Kenny) of Hays, Kansas, and Landon Hamblet of Hays, Kansas; grandchildren, Tripp, Twynn, Jhett, Noaa, Navee, and Avery; grand pup, Chester; numerous nieces and nephews; and great-great-great niece and nephew, Leia Martin and James Martin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Shirley Manson; and brother, Larry Hamblet.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, 6-8PM, with a Rosary at 7PM, all at the church.

The family kindly requests memorial contributions in lieu of flowers to the TMP 1908 Athletics Facilities Project, where Rocky’s grandchildren currently attend school, honoring his lifelong love of sports and supporting young athletes for generations to come.
