Robert Darrel Griffin

Robert Darrel Griffin, 90, passed away November 1, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Hays, Kansas. Robert was born March 11, 1934, in Osborne County, Kansas. On June 4, 1972, he was united in marriage to Carolyne Powell until Carolyn’s passing in 2014. To this union, three sons were born: Kenneth Bradley “Brad”, Robert “Rob” II, and William James.

Robert grew up and attended school in Natoma, Kansas and played football at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas before returning to the Natoma area. Robert enlisted in the Army in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1957. He later returned to the armed forces, serving in the Kansas National Guard for a total of 27 years of combined service. In addition to his military service, Robert spent a lifetime committed to working in the oil fields and law enforcement.

Survivors include Bradley Griffin and wife Cheryl Turner of Lincoln, Ne and Robert D. Griffin II of Amarillo, Tx; 10 grandchildren, Robert Griffin III, Katrina Griffin, Jaron Griffin, Alaister Griffin, Jasper Griffin, Kaleb Gilkerson, Gabrielle Griffin, Brooklyn Griffin, Hannah Turner, Zach Turner; and three great-grandchildren: Braylon and Avery Gilkerson, and Kolton Turner-Lankford.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Eleanor and Chester Griffin; brother, Warren Griffin; and son, William James.

Robert will be remembered for his love of family, his love of music and singing voice, and his devotion to service. Robert was a member of the Masons in Russell, Kansas and the Order of the Eastern Star in Hays, Kansas.

A celebration of life gathering will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, 10:30-11:30AM at the funeral home in Plainville, KS.
