Charles Robert Carmicheal, 84 of Plainville,Kansas, died Sunday, April 5th, 2015 at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville. He died battling his fight with cancer and went to be with his Lord and Saviour. Robert was born to Charles Ralph and Maude La Verne (Winters) Carmicheal on June 26, 1930 in Plainville. He graduated from Plainville High School in 1948 where he enjoyed playing football and basketball. He married Erma Maxine Pettijohn on October 2, 1949 in Plainville. They enjoyed 65 1/2 years of marriage. During the Korean conflict he joined the United States Air Force where he served in Iceland and the Norton Air Force Base, California as Staff Seargent in the Payroll Department. He received a good Conduct Metal and a National Defense Service Medal. Upon leaving the service he returned to Plainville where he worked for his father as a truck driver and in their hardware store. He graduated in 1948 and worked in the store in 1946 through February 2015 and during that time, the store went from Marshall Auto (1944) to Coast to Coast (1959) to Carmicheal True Value (1998). He and Erma purchased the store in 1965 from his parents. He was a very successful businessman and had a "big heart" for the people he served. Part of the success is due to his long time business partners, Charles and Carol Hanson along with his son, Wes Carmicheal. His quarter horses were a very important part of his life, in 1948 he was a charter member of the Paradise Flat Saddle Club, which is now the Plainville Saddle Club, being a life long member for over 66 years. He was a member of the Plainville United Methodist Church; a life member of the VFW Post, Number 8871; a member of the American Legion Post 187; a 63 year Master Mason of Paradise Lodge 290, Past Master; a Scottish Rite and York Rite Mason; a member of the ISIS Shrine of Salina; a 55 year member of the Order of Eastern Star, Past Patron; a long time member of the Plainville Chamber of Commerce; Past President of Plainville Industrial Development Corporation; a long time member and supporter of the Plainville Booster Club; a lifetime member of the Plainville FFA Alumni Association; He established in 2014 the Robert Carmicheal Family Scholarship for 2 Plainville Graduating Seniors through 2048 which is the 100th Anniversary of his Graduating Class. He is survived by his wife Erma of the home; a son, Wes, Plainville; two daughters, Kelly Dean and husband Bill, Topeka; Robyn Seabolt and husband Art, Skiatook, Oklahoma. Five Grandchildren: Noelle Sliva and husband Lenny, Olathe; Travis Dean and Robert Dean, Topeka; Seth and Dominic Seabolt, Skiatook, Oklahoma. Two Step Grandchildren: Krysten Stroh, Owasso, Oklahoma and Matthew Stroh, Lenexa. One Great Grandchild: Becker Sliva, Olathe. Two Sisters: Joy Glick, Hays and Regna Powell, Sun City, Arizona; Sister-in-Law: Jo Carmicheal, Jetmore and numerous Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant brother, Norman, two brothers, Richard and Ron Carmicheal, two brother-in-laws, Fred Glick and Bruce Powell and one sister-in-law, Shirley Carmicheal.
