Rex L. Storer passed away Saturday, August 8, 2015, at the Sheridan County Health Complex in Hoxie, Kansas at the age of 68. He was born to Olin “Buzz” Storer and Opal (Shepard) Storer on December 30, 1946 in rural Sheridan County. Rex attended Tasco Elementary School and graduated from Sheridan County High School with the class of 1964. He was a state wrestling champion his senior year of high school. He attended and graduated from a knife sharpening school and attended Fort Hays State College for a brief time until he enlisted and served as a Sargent in the United States Air Force from May 6, 1966 until May 5, 1970. During his time in the service, he was stationed in Viet Nam and worked as a Weapons Control System Mechanic on F-4 Phantoms. Rex married Myra Norman on April 19, 1969, in Salina, Kansas. Rex and Myra had two sons, Rex F. “Rexie” and Daren and a daughter, Gina Lynn who passed away as an infant. They divorced. He married Heather (Markey) Hunziker. They divorced. Rex was a member of the United Methodist Church and the American Legion for many years. In his younger life, he was very active with the Boy Scouts of America. He served as a Scout Leader. During his life, Rex worked as a mechanic ; as a farmhand for Oliver and Richard Krannawitter and Ed Currier; and he had his own knife sharpening business “Sharp Shop”. He was a jack-of-all trades and wasn’t afraid to tackle any job. Besides work, Rex loved to fish, hunt, and camp. Rex was the kind of person who always spoke to everyone and had a smile on his face. Rex liked to keep things simple. Family and his dog were most important to Rex. Rex would do anything for them. He worked hard and played hard, enjoying life to the fullest. Rex is survived by his two sons, Rex F. Storer and wife Leslie of Selden, Kansas and Daren Storer and wife Cassandra of Salina, Kansas; grandchildren, Davanee, Gabriel, Tristen, Jayce, Zoey, Hannah, Morgan, and Kacie ; one great-grandchild Ayden; sister, Bev Turner of Hill City, Kansas, and a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, “Buzz” and Opal Storer; infant daughter, Gina Lynn Storer; granddaughter, Kiara Storer; brother, Don Storer; and sister, Pat Adams. Rex was a friend to all. He will be missed, but he leaves behind a host of memories and stories. Rex would not want anyone to grieve for but to celebrate his life. He would want you to remember the best times, the laughter, the good life he lived while still strong. He would say, remember me, dry your tears and live life to the fullest.
