Reverend Lyle Miller

March 13, 1928 — December 22, 2020

Rev. Lyle Miller preached his last sermon to his Cedar Christian Church family on November 29, 2020. Lyle died December 22 under Hospice care, tended by his children and extended family at his rural Stockton, Kansas home. Lyle was born March 13, 1928 in Formoso, Kansas to Elza Otto and Mary Adeline (Beanblossom) Miller. Lyle graduated from Burr Oak High School where he ran track. He received the Glenn Cunningham Mile award in 1946. Lyle graduated high school just as the draft ended for WWII. He chose to serve 2 summers serving his community by working for the Youth Peace Caravan. The Peace Caravan was a Brethren Church mission effort originating after WWII, eventually evolving into Christian Rural Overseas Program (CROP). Lyle spoke in a Dec. 1946 pre-curser to the United Nations as a part of the Peace Caravan. Lyle was the first college graduate in his family, graduating from McPherson College in 1951. On June 11, 1950, Jeannie and Lyle were married at the Waterloo, Iowa Church of the Brethren. Their first churches were Kensington/Beulah. Other churches served include Pleasant View/ Hunter, Scandia/Courtland/Norway, Tisdale/Burden, Stockton/Woodston, Rose Valley and finally Cedar Christian Church. He also taught school and was a chaplain at the Beloit Girls Industrial School for several years. Lyle served God for 70 plus years, living a life worthy of the “call”. Lyle joins his parents, son Mark, and siblings Donald, George, Virgil, Virginia, Frances and Gladys in Paradise.
