Raymond Edwin Moran

November 7, 1915 — June 6, 2014

Raymond Edwin Moran, 98, died Friday, June 6, 2014, at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville. He was born on the Burt Ranch near Hamilton, KS, on November 7, 1915 to Gertrude E. (Wright) and William W. Moran. After graduating from Hamilton High School, Ray worked as an Assistant Manager at the Western Auto in Douglas, AZ. On May 27, 1937, Ray Moran and Madeline Eleanor Fletcher were united in marriage in Tuscon, AZ. Ray joined the Army in 1942 and served as a Staff Sergeant in North Africa and Italy during WW II. After the war, Ray and Madeline settled near Hoisington, Kansas, until 1960 when the family moved to Plainville. Ray worked for Skelly Oil Company from 1948 until his retirement in 1980. A life-long learner and hard worker, Ray also received his real estate license and sold homes in Plainville and then studied to become a broker and worked at Fitzgerald, Cowen & Roberts. After retirement, Ray and Madeline enjoyed golfing, fishing, square dancing and round dancing. Ray loved to cue round dances throughout the area and was always willing to help others learn to dance. Ray was a long-time member of the Plainville United Methodist Church, the VFW, and the American Legion. Ray was preceded in death in 2010 by Madeline, his beloved wife of 73 years. He will be dearly missed by his daughter, Leah Rampy and husband David of Alexandria VA; his son, Jerry Moran and wife, Robba, of Manhattan, KS; grandchildren Andrew and Ana Rampy; Kelsey Moran Harder and husband Brandon; and Alex Moran.
