Raymond James Mattas passed away Monday, September 5, 2016 at Golden Living Center in Wilson, Kansas at the age of 83. He was born on January 9, 1933 in Wilson to the late Anton Albert and Matilda Agnes (Soukup) Mattas. He grew up in the Wilson area before living with and making new friends at Developmental Services of Northwest Kansas in Russell for many years. He enjoyed tinkering and liked to take apart flashlights and old radios just for fun. He had a huge heart for everyone, but had a special love for dogs and children, most especially babies. Raymond is survived by his sister-in-law Irene Mattas of Wilson; nephew Mike Mattas and wife Mary of Wilson; niece Norma Schneweis and husband David of Claflin; great-nieces Jacque Simon and husband Paul, Amanda Ternes and husband Kelby, and Andrea Mattas; and great-great-nephews Rorric Simon, Ty Ternes, and Tatum Ternes. He was preceded in death by his parents Anton and Matilda Mattas, and brother Leonard A. Mattas. Raymond had a loving spirit that touched everyone who knew him. He will be greatly missed, because he loved others so greatly, and was so greatly loved in return.
