Ray Edward Fitts

October 16, 1931 — September 7, 2014

Ray Edward Fitts passed away Sunday, September 7, 2014 at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville, Kansas at the age of 82. He was born October 16, 1931 in Lyons, Colorado to James Edward and Beatrice (Morgan) Fitts. Ray enjoyed his work and enjoyed his fun as well. Shooting pool, especially a good game of 9-Ball, was always a great time with family and friends. He loved animals, especially dogs, and took pride in being known in certain circles as a “quarry rat.” Ray was a very unique and talented man. He embraced the creative arts in all that he did. With wood and the saw mill he created everything from jewelry boxes to building materials. As a stone mason he created structures large and small. As a musician he created joy and music that flowed from his heart no matter what instrument he picked up. But most importantly, as a father and a grandfather, he created a life and a legacy of love. Ray is survived by his son Duane Edward Fitts of Stockton; daughter Patsy Bethel and husband Harvey of Loveland, CO; grandchildren Greg Fitts and wife Susan, Stacey Scheck and husband Patrick, James Bethel and wife Debbie, John Bethel and wife Joni, Raelyn Fitts and companion H.J. Colburn, and Stefani Fitts and companion Corey St. Clair; and great-grandchildren Dylan, Evan, Kyrstin, Katrina, Tylor, Amanda, Conrad, Dalton, Jenae, Taesen, Tanner, and Tristynn. Ray was preceded in death by his parents James and Beatrice Fitts, brothers John and Robert Lee Fitts, and his sister Geraldine Kelly. Ray saw the world as a place full of possibilities to be embraced with passion. He taught us the value of hard work, easy play, and loving those closest to you. His life, love, and legacy will live on in our hearts forever.
