Polly Ann Stallings

January 20, 1963 — January 16, 2014

Polly Ann Stallings passed away Thursday, January 16, 2014, at her home in Sheridan County, Kansas at the age of 50. She was born January 20, 1963 to Charles F. and Carol Sue (Selbe) Stallings in Oxford, North Carolina. In 1966 Polly and her parents moved to Hoxie, Kansas where she attended Hoxie public schools. She graduated from Hoxie High School with the class of 1981. Polly earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geography from The University of Kansas in 1986. Upon college graduation she returned to Hoxie where she helped on the family farm and worked as a Technician for National Resources Conservation Services. Polly loved nature and enjoyed her job very much. As part of her job, Polly shared ways to better conserve nature with area elementary students who learned much and enjoyed her dedication. She made sure every child in Sheridan County who wanted a tree of their own received one. Many school and church children were blessed by Polly’s passion to serve others. Polly was a life-long learner. She was curious about everything and studied a variety of subjects, astronomy being one of her favorites. Polly was a faithful member of the Hoxie United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She loved singing in the choir and serving her Lord through many church ministries. Last spring Polly completed training to become a Lay Speaker in the United Methodist Church. Left to cherish Polly’s memory are her parents, Charles F. and Carol Sue Stallings of Hoxie, aunts and uncles, Kathleen Sheltra of Manhattan, John and Rose Stallings of Pine Level, NC, Bob and Miriam Stallings of Marietta, GA, Beth and Bobby Johnson of Princeton, NC, and Linda and Richard Gully of Raleigh, NC; cousins, Doug Stein, Chris Stein, Paul Stallings, David Stallings, Neil Stallings, Scott Stallings, Robert Johnson, Austin Gully, Stoney Gully, and Jeffery Gully. Polly was preceded in death by her grandparents, Harold and Goldie Selbe, and James R. and Ellaphair Stallings. Polly will be greatly missed by the countless lives she touched and all who knew and loved her, but her life and memory will continue to have an impact for eternity. It was Polly who inspired us to keep our eyes on the stars and find our dreams, to keep our feet on the ground and find our lives as the stewards God called us to be of His creation and make an impact for generations to come.
