Patricia Ann Grecian

January 1, 1947 — December 23, 2017

Patricia “Patty” Grecian, 70 years old, went home to be with the Lord at Wesley Hospital, Wichita, KS with her family by her side December 24, 2017, due to a brain bleed. Patty was born on January 1, 1947 in Wichita, KS to her parents, Quentin and Vivian Base. She married Stanley Grecian June 4, 1967. Although she followed Stan to the University of Georgia and earned her degree in Home Economics in 1969, she always considered Kansas State University to be her Alma Mater. For three years, she worked as a county extension agent in Hugoton, KS before the Grecians moved to Palco in 1971 and launched a pork production farm, greatly aiding her husband in farm operations by excessive use of sticky notes, a label-maker, and “Patty-Packing.” During the next forty-two years, she nurtured three globe-trotting children (following Kelly to New Zealand and China), raised over 210,000 pigs, battled breast cancer, made many trips to Colorado to be in the mountains, and took many musk thistle digging dates with Stan. They retired in 2013 and have dedicated the last 4 years to their children, grandchildren, projects on the farm (the latest being the “Red Shed”-come visit sometime!), travel and volunteering. Patty lovingly mothered anyone who came through the door attached to her children. Her faith in God was an uplifting force and her giggle was infectious, bringing joy to everyone she encountered. Never one to want recognition, she quietly served many with her wisdom, generosity, prayers and practical assistance. Talking often of heaven (even the day before she passed), we celebrate her “final awakening.” Patty is survived by her husband, Stanley; her daughters, Stacey Risner (Jay) of Manhattan, Amy Reid (Eric) of Manhattan, and Kelly Helms of Colorado Springs; five grandchildren: Jacey Reid, Delenn Risner, Leah Reid, Tate Reid, and Gabriel Helms; and brother, Gary Base of Sedgwick. Patty is preceded in death by parents; son-in-law, Joel Helms; and six grandbabies.
