Orren Henry Marcotte

February 18, 1927 — September 7, 2012

Orren Henry Marcotte was born February 18, 1927 to Lewis and May (Morton) Marcotte on the farm in rural Palco, Kansas. He passed away at his him, on the same farm, Friday, September 7, 2012, at the age of 85. Orren was a lifelong resident of Palco. He attended The Stone School near Palco. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Purkey on August 27, 1950 in Kansas City, Kansas. To this union four children were born: Rita, Terry, Timothy and Julie. Orren was a farmer and also worked for Kansas-Nebraska Natural Gas Company as a mechanic for 29 years. Although Orren worked for the gas company, farming was his passion. He spent eighty-five years on his farm. He also enjoyed going to auctions (even if he came home empty handed), hunting and fishing. He is survived by his sons, Terry Marcotte and Tim Marcotte and wife Brenda of Palco; daughters Rita and husband George of Plainville, and Cherie “Julie” Mattson and husband Don of Palco; sisters Mereata Baldwin of Hill City, Eula Rathbun of Natoma, and Leveta Scoggins of Tennessee; 12 grandchildren, Tonya (Luke), Nikki Lind (Mike), Jeremy Marcotte, Cody Marcotte, Jennifer Nelson, Jessica Spears, Angela Tocco, Michelle Braswell (Tony), Katelyn Marcotte, Rachael Mattson-White (Marcus), Chris Mattson (Kathy), and Amber Mattson; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marjorie; brother Melvin Marcotte; and sisters Twila Nyp, Eyvonne Woods and Wilma Jean Marcotte. Orren was an honest, humble and hardworking man. The memories that were made and shared will keep him near to the hearts of family and friends.
