Opal B. “Peggy” Mason of Phillipsburg, formerly of Stockton, passed away Saturday, September 15, 2012 at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg, Kansas at the age of 94. Peggy was born February 3, 1918 in the Cactus Community near Logan, Kansas to Ralph and Nellie Miner. She attended school in the Logan area. Peggy was united in marriage to John T. Mason on April 15, 1939. They were married for over 71 years. Peggy was a housewife and worked many years caring for the elderly in various retirement homes. She loved cooking, gardening and shopping. She was the best cook. She also loved dancing which she did for 71 years. Peggy so enjoyed her family and grandkids. They all remember helping her cook. Survivors include two daughters Delores and husband Gorman Rubottom of Stockton, and Patty Northup of Phillipsburg; son Dennis and wife Carolyn Mason of Goddard; brothers Don Miner of Redcloud, NE and Lawrence Miner of Denton, KS; sister Melva Jean Quillen of Pueblo, CO; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Preceding Peggy in death were her parents, Ralph and Nellie; husband, John; son, Gene; and five brothers, Vernon, Leo, Elzie, Delbert and Almond. Peggy was a treasure of the heart, and to lose her is like losing a piece of ourselves. But the love that Peggy brought did not leave us, for the essence of her soul lingers. It cannot escape our hearts, for it has been there forever.
