Nola Nadine (Bane) Turnbull, 91, of Plainville, Kansas, passed away on March 7, 2026, at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

She was born on March 30, 1934, in Webster, Kansas, to Lennie and Louria (Stice) Bane. Nola grew up on a farm north of Stockton and attended country school as a youth. She then attended Stockton schools before earning her G.E.D. from Plainville High School. On May 7, 1951, she married Jackie “Jack” Irvin Turnbull in Phillipsburg, Kansas. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and devotion to one another, and were blessed with four children: Tony, Brenda, Jeff, and Tracy.

While living in Stockton, Nola worked at JCPenney; after moving to Plainville, she worked at Unrein Drug Store, Busy Bee, and Turnbull Oil. In her free time, she enjoyed painting, sewing, knitting, reading, and playing bridge and board games. Throughout her life, Nola faithfully taught youth and adult Sunday school classes for many years. Her faith and her family were the guiding forces of her life, and she served as the spiritual leader of her family.

In retirement, Nola and Jack enjoyed traveling across the country in their fifth-wheel camper. They explored much of the United States and many other places together, often saying that Africa was about the only place they hadn’t visited. Nola also loved square dancing with Jack and reading together in the sunroom. What mattered most to her was simply being together.

Nola especially treasured her large family and the many gatherings and reunions that brought everyone together. Being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was one of the greatest joys of her life.

She is survived by her children: Tony Turnbull and wife Cindy of Elk City, Oklahoma; Brenda Turnbull of Hays, Kansas; Jeff Turnbull and wife Deb of Plainville; and Tracy Fellhoelter and husband Steve of Plainville; brothers Bruce (Wanda) Bane of Littleton, Colorado, and Mickey (Patsy) Bane of Emporia, Kansas; 14 grandchildren: Brett Turnbull, Jessie Turnbull, Travis (Sarah) Harrison, Grady (Chelsea) Foerster, Chelsey Foerster, Dustin Foerster, Jackie (Chris) Wehrli, Quentin (Tanya) Meyers, Racquel (Nic) Proctor, Ashleigh (Ian) Mabb, Keegan Turnbull, Kristen (Drue) Herl, Shanna (Jared) Ganoung, and Jenna (Corbin) Kuntzsch; 30 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and another on the way; and many nieces and nephews.

Nola was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack; and her sister, Judy Maze.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, March 13, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Plainville. A book signing with the family receiving friends will be held Thursday from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Plainville. A private family inurnment will be held at the Stockton Cemetery prior to the church service.
