Newlin E. White, age 91, of Stockton, passed away Friday, September 17, 2010 at the Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton. He was born March 5, 1919 in Oxford, Kansas the son of Charles E. & Mary Eva Jane “Evelyn” (Ford) White. Mr. White was an office machine technician for Northwest Office Supply in Colby for many years and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Newlin enjoyed collecting antiques, arrowheads, golfing, and gardening. He Graduated from Colby High School and attended Ft. Hays State University. While in college, he ran track and played basketball setting several records in track & field, some of which are still standing. He served his country in the United State Army during WWII in the 5th Armored Tank Division as a medic. On November 4, 1942, he married Bettie Mae Johnson in Hays. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage before Bettie passed away. Survivors include his son Gary & wife Linda White of Burlingame, Kansas; daughter Terry & husband Don Hamit of Stockton; grandchildren Marlyn and husband Adam Bryant of Stockton, Jessie R. and husband Kenney Hawks, Amanda L. and husband Gary Walton of Colorado Springs, Colorado; great grandchildren Clayton J. Becker of Hutchinson, Landon M. Becker of Stockton, Dakota J. Brown of Osage City, Kansas, Jacob and Brenden White, and Peyton Walton of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Newlin was preceded in death by his beloved wife Bettie on May 8, 2007, his grandson Judd Hamit, and his stepfather Vernon H. Emmons. Mr. White was cremated and services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 16, 2010 at the MT. Vernon Cemetery northwest of Stockton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Stockton Ambulance Fund and may be sent in care of the Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home, 723 N. First, Stockton, Kansas 67669.
