Nelda F. (Kerr) Cooper, 98, formerly of Hoxie, Kansas, passed away Friday, May 22, 2015, at Aldersgate Village Retirement Center, Topeka, Kansas. She was born January 2, 1917, in Bowcreek Township of Sheridan County, Kansas, the daughter of Grover and Ruby (Scott) Kerr. She attended country schools and graduated from Sheridan County High School in 1936. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Hoxie. Nelda was married to Arthur “Mex” Cooper, September 29, 1941 in Wakeeney, KS. Together they raised three sons and a daughter. Nelda was a housewife, mother, entrepreneur, and friend. She taught school and later owned and operated the Cooper Flower Shop in Hoxie as well as selling Avon. Other activities Nelda enjoyed included teaching Sunday School, leading Cub and Brownie Scout Packs, making ceramics, painting, gardening, fishing, swimming and quilting. Nelda is survived by her three sons, Mex Arthur Cooper (Linda), Prairie Village, Kansas, Rex Cooper (Lynn) of Salina, Kansas, and Kem Cooper (Sharla) of Topeka, KS; daughter, Cindy New (Steve) of Big Spring, Texas; a sister Betty Pomeroy of Meridian, Idaho; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Nelda was preceded in death by her parents, Grover and Ruby Kerr; husband, Arthur A. “Mex” Cooper; brothers, Floyd Kerr and Clarence Morse; and sisters, Lucile Kerr and Vida (Steinshouer) Mowry.
