Nancy Elizabeth Sammons

Nancy Elizabeth Sammons was born October 13, 1919 in Webster, Rooks County, Kansas to Arthur Walter and Esther Beatrice (Cruise) McGinnis. She died December 30, 2011 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas at the age of 92. Nancy lived during her young years in or near Webster, Kansas, graduating from Webster High School. When she was 2 years old her mother died and she was adopted by Omer R. and Fern V. (Cline) Henderson who raised her as their own. She was the only child with both sets of parents. She married Leonard W. Sammons on September 1, 1940 at Hays, Kansas. She worked during her early married life helping her husband on the farm and in department stores. Later when Leonard became a minister she then became a minister’s wife. She was a loving and devoted mother and wife. She raised 4 children, 3 sons and a daughter. She lived many places but considered Stockton and Rooks County as her home. Leaving to mourn her passing are her husband Leonard Sammons of Hays, Kansas; sons, Darrell D. Sammons and wife Charlotte of Stockton, Kansas, Tracy L. Sammons and wife Linda of Pueblo, Colorado, and Leonard Steven Sammons and wife Sheryl of Salina, Kansas; daughter, Carrol Ann Kendrick and husband Ellis Eugene of Liberty, Missouri; thirteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; relatives and many friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, Arthur and Beatrice McGinnis; and her adoptive parents, Omer and Fern Henderson. Services are planned for 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 2, 2012 at Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home with Reverend Les Ellis officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, January 1, 2012 from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Nursing Home or Stockton United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home, 723 N. First Stockton, Kansas 67669.
