Remembering… Mildred Louise (Beckley) Clark passed away at Rooks County Health Center in Plainville, Kansas on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at the age of 93. She was born on July 16, 1921 on the family farm, in Rooks County, Kansas, 17 miles Northwest of Stockton, to Floyd E. and Mary “Marie” (Sommerhiser) Beckley. Mildred grew up in Rooks County and attended Slate Rural School in the Bow Creek Township. She went on to attend both Stockton and Webster high schools. On April 22, 1939 she married Aaron E. Clark in Oberlin, Kansas. They were blessed with four children. Mildred was a hard-working wife and mother. Along with raising her family, she loved cooking and together with Aaron, owned and operated a gas station and caf? in Palco for many years. She was known far and wide for her fabulous donuts. She also enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and fishing. After retiring in 1973, she began traveling and eventually visited all 50 states, most of them in their motorhome. Mildred is survived by her husband Aaron of the home; sons Verle Clark and wife Lyn-Nell of Rose Hill, and Ivan Clark and Wife Rita of Morrison, CO; daughter Wanda Marshall and husband Robert “Tex” of Thornton, CO; son-in-law Melvin Kats and wife Bonnie of Long Island; sister Belva Kern of Texarkana, AR; grandchildren Guy Clark and Kay Bontrager, Glenda and Allen Parsons, Teresa and Myron Schmidt, Tod Lowry, Trevor and Christina Lowry, Tabitha Lowry, Gay Desair and Rod Normandin, Kimberly and Kirk Horinick, Jamie and Cliff Gallagher, Jennifer and Chuck Gates Kmet, Kerry and Dan Rucinski, Nicki and Brad Berland, and Beau and Esther Clark; 28 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Marie Beckley, daughter LaVon Kats, daughter-in-law Carolyn (Lumpkins) Clark, brother Robert Beckley, grandchildren Tomie Lowry and Michael Miller, and great-grandson Ryan Desair. Mildred was a woman of deep love and faith for God, family, and friends. In the words of the Proverbs writer she truly was “blessed.” She was an inspiration and encouragement to all who knew her. Although she will be greatly missed, she will live forever in the hearts of those who loved her and whom she loved even more.
