Mick “Mickey” Pulec passed away Sunday, February 9, 2014 at his home in Plainville, Kansas at the age of 72. He was born January 31, 1942 to Edward “Eddie” & Marjorie (Morris) Pulec in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. They later moved to Plainville where Mick grew up. Despite his physical disability, Mick was very self-sufficient and studied hard to complete his GED and then go on to Emporia State University. It was there he met and married Carolyn Osborn in March of 1969. To this union were born two beautiful daughters, Vania and Llana. They later divorced. Mick was an avid lover of paleontology and loved to go out exploring looking for the next big find. For many years, he set up a fireworks stand in front of his parents’ house on the highway. He planned for months in advance and always looked forward to his friends stopping by to visit. He had an amazing mind even when his body wanted to fail him. Truly Mick was a man of strength, heart and adventure who loved life and lived it to the fullest. Mick is survived by his two daughters, Vania Bruner of Lawrence and Llana Patterson of Parkville, MO; sister Joyce Marcotte of Plainville; brother Jack Pulec of Wichita; two grandsons, Luke and Logan Bruner; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Marjorie. Private inurnment services will be held at a later date in Plainville Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to U.I. Foundation Neuromuscular Fund, “Dr. Shy’s Research” in care of University of Iowa, Jim Sherman Dept. of Neurology, 200 Hawkins Drive, Iowa City, IA 52242. Mick’s days of driving through Denny’s, bungee jumping, and skydiving may be done for the moment, but his love, his memories, his stories, and his legacy live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Mick inspired us to never make excuses, always overcome, and never give up. Indeed he still encourages us, “I’m okay with the skin I’ve been given, and darn proud of it!”
