Mereata L. Baldwin

March 11, 1913 — October 27, 2014

Mereata Lenora (Marcotte) Baldwin passed away on Monday, October 27, 2014 at Dawson Place in Hill City, Kansas at the age of 101. She was born in Rooks County, Kansas on March 11, 1913 to Louis and May (Morton) Marcotte. She was united in marriage to Alfred Baldwin on August 3, 1936 in Hays, Kansas. They were blessed with four children, Marvin, Richard, Gary, and Carolyn. Mereata spent most of her life as a proud mother, homemaker, and farm wife. She helped with all of the farm chores, including milk cows for 41years, and helping to operate the Rooks County Dairy. She also loved gardening. Mereata had a huge heart for children. She spent countless loving hours making stuffed animals and dolls, of all kinds, that were donated to the Hays Medical Center. This was a project near and dear to her heart, second only to her love for her family and friends. Mereata is survived by her sons Marvin Baldwin and wife Delora of Great Bend, Richard Baldwin of Zurich, and Gary Baldwin and wife Wanda of Ozark, MO; daughter Carolyn Brock and partner Jim Callahan of Gravois Mills, MO; sisters Eula Rathbun of Natoma, and Lerata Scoggins of Chattanooga, TN; grandchildren Scott, Rena, Kimberly, Sarah, Lisa, Dawn, and Nancy; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Louis and May Marcotte, husband Alfred Baldwin, brothers Orren and Melvin Marcotte, and sisters Twila Nyp and Eyvonne Woods. A hardworking woman of faith, hope, and love, Mereata showed us all by her life that the greatest of these is love. Although she will be greatly missed, she will live forever in the hearts of those who knew her best, for they were greatly loved.
