Melvin V. Fox, 89, passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at Ellsworth Village in Ellsworth, KS. He was born on May 31, 1931 in Kinsley, KS to Michael M. and Mary A. (Smith) Fox. He attended District 8 Country School in Kinsley. In 1952 he was enlisted into the United States Marine Corps. Melvin was united in marriage to Barbara F. Hammond on January 5, 1952 in Larned, KS. They were blessed with seven sons and two daughters. Melvin was a hardworking man and kept very busy. When he completed his education, he started working on the family farm as a cattleman. After his ranching days, he owned a hotel in Pratt, a spray corporation in Great Bend, and a car lot, along with a custom cutting business, in Wilson. Melvin took immense pride in his lawn. He made sure the grass was properly maintained, and that the landscaping was perfect. Melvin was a member of the Knights of Columbus of Dorrance. Left to cherish his memory are sons, Rocky (Linda) Fox of Pratt, Gary (Darla) Fox of Offerle, Roger (Debbie) Fox of Hoxie, and Calvin (Bonnie) Fox of Hoisington; daughter, Beverly (Mike) Wesley of Lake City; grandchildren, Toni (Jason) Flax, Jessica (Johnny) Howard, Amanda (Jon) Rucker, Christopher Wesley, Elizebeth (Mark) Fitch, Sarah (Auston) Burenheide, Lisa (William) Washington, Nicholas (Josie) Fox, Michael (Carrine) Fox, Chris (Cherie) Fox, Eric (Dani) Fox, Ericka (Josh) Kleweno, Brian (Billie) Fox, Evie Fox, Neilda Fox, Emily (Dallas) Harman, Jennifer Fox, Brandy Fox, Brooks (Alyssa) Fox, Brittany (Rob) Daughtry, Jody Fox, Theresa (Ron) Movilla, Tammy (George) Mullen, Tim (Christina) MacCord, Michael Fox, Dean Fox, Grace (Trey) Fox, Lukas Fox, Chad Brungardt, Jessica (Julian) Rose, Ashley (Jeremy) Ortiz, and Erica (Jose) Valles; and 60 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Mary; wife, Barbara; sons, Larry Fox, Terry Fox, and Matt Fox; daughter, Judy MacCord; brothers, Raymond, Eugene, Leo, and Robert Fox; and grandson, Trent Fox. Melvin was a hardworking and caring man. While he strived for perfection in all that he did, he knew how to have fun and enjoy life along the way. He will be greatly missed, but his memory will serve as an inspiration to those who knew him… always do what you love, and always love what you do.
