Mary Lou (Maupin) Gooden passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at Rooks County Health Center in Plainville, Kansas at the age of 65. She was born July 4, 1948 to John E. and Hortense J. (Russell) Maupin in Natoma, Kansas. Mary graduated from Natoma High School and later attended Fort Hays State University. She was united in marriage to Nile Lynn Gooden on November 19, 1993 in Russell, Kansas. She had been previously blessed with four daughters, Stella, Goldie, Vickie, and Angela. Mary was always a hardworking, loving woman. She not only raised a family, she worked as a Quality Control Inspector for Travenol Laboratories in Hays, tended her vegetable and flower gardens, and helped take care of grandkids at every opportunity. Preceding Mary in death are her parents, John and Hortense; sisters, Ona Maupin and Patricia Hosier; sister-in-law Gabrielle Maupin; brothers-in-law Bill Hosier, Weldon Zamecnik, and Don Petty; sons-in-law, Patrick Lindsey and Butch McNett; and one grandchild, Sydney Renee Janow. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Nile of the home; daughters Stella McNett of Glenmora, Louisiana, Goldie Lindsey of Natoma, Vickie Johnson of St. Joseph, Kansas, and Angela Dewey and fianc? Dennis Cook of Glenmora, Louisiana; brothers Johnny and wife Nellie Maupin, and Mike Maupin, all of Dodge City; sister, Sue Petty of Osborne; grandchildren, Natasha, Marie, Travis, Champion, and Jesse McNett, Kandis Mayberry, Sebastian Janow, Ivi Cook, Dayin and Jarrett Johnson; and one great-grandchild, Rei Guillory.
