Mary Anna Ernst

Mary Anna (Hicks) Ernst, of Plainville, KS, passed away on March 2, 2023, at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville, at the age of 77. She was born to Joseph and Sylvia (Voight) Hicks on August 31, 1945, in her Grandfather Hicks’s house in Logan, KS. She married Rudi Heinz Ernst on May 20, 1966, in the Plainville United Methodist Church. They were blessed with one son, Joseph Erwin Ernst.

Mary grew up in Plainville and graduated from Plainville High School in 1963. She was a homemaker, scout leader, and worked at Travenol and the Plainville Hospital for 25 years. She was a member of the Plainville UMC and a lifetime member of the Rooks County Health Center Auxiliary.

She is survived by her son, Joseph (Joe) Ernst of Plainville; brothers, Joseph (Maureen) Hicks of San Antonio, TX and twin Gary Frank Hicks of Plainville; twin nephews, Keith and Kevin; nieces Carol and Jean and their families; and many relatives, friends, and those she cared for so compassionately, including her cats and poodle Pier.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Sylvia Hicks; and husband Rudi Ernst.

A private family service will be held.
