Mary “Eleanor” Becker passed away on December 16, 2021, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas at the age of 90. She was born on November 1, 1931, in Horton, Kansas to Clarence and Frances (Gormley) Hagel. She was united in marriage to Alfred “Al” Becker on April 19, 1949, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville. Eleanor and Al were blessed with three children: Stephen, Patricia, and Mary. Eleanor moved to Plainville her junior year of high school. Instead of finishing high school she went to work at the local soda shop and married her best friend, Al Becker. At a young age, Eleanor learned the importance of having a pristine clean home and matching that with the best smelling laundry. She was proud of her immaculate home and loved hosting her family and friends for gatherings ranging from card games to Super Bowl parties. Eleanor and Al also loved to travel, gamble, and dance. If she spent time at home and wasn’t cleaning or hosting a party, she enjoyed gardening and canning. A devout Catholic, Eleanor was active in her church and a member of the Daughters of Isabella. She is survived by her son, Stephen (Irma) Becker of Lubbock, TX; daughters, Patricia (Will) Stout of Natoma, KS and Mary (Ron) Boyd of Kipp, KS; eleven grandchildren; and thirty-one great-grandchildren with one on the way. Eleanor joins in her heavenly home, her parents, Clarence and Frances Hagel; husband, Alfred Becker; two infant sons; two infant daughters; and sisters, Elizabeth Hamlin, Kathleen Proctor, and Darlyne VanNortwick; granddaughter, Melissa Ann Becker; two great-grandsons, Dyron Paul Schutte and Browynn Boyd Birdsong; and a grandson-in-law, Dru Daniel Miller. A woman of strong faith and extraordinary love, Eleanor was devoted to a life of serving God and her beloved family. As a loving, caring mother, her family was second only to God; and although she has now gone home to be with her Lord, she leaves behind the legacy of her love, and that all things are possible with faith and to love one another as Jesus loved us. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but the celebration of her life and memories will never be forgotten. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at 10:30 Am at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville. Visitation will be on Tuesday at the funeral home from 3PM until 5PM with a Vigil Service and Rosary at 6 PM at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to VFW Post #8871 or Natoma/Paradise Fire Relief Fund and may be sent in care of Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, 320 SW 2nd St., Plainville, KS 67663.
