Funeral services for Marvin E. “Gene” Westhusin, age 69, of Salina, formerly of Plainville, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 13, 2011 at the Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel in Plainville with Father Galen Long officiating. Mr. Westhusin passed away Monday, October 10, 2011 at his home in Salina. He was born June 2, 1942 the son of Julius and Hattie (Bedore) Westhusin. Gene attended Codell High School and served his country in the United States Navy. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and playing cards. Survivors include his daughters Sheryl Miller of Aiken, South Carolina, Deanna and husband Randy Ewing of Phillipsburg; son Julius Westhusin of Phillipsburg; mother Hattie of Plainville; his longtime companion Susie Drayer of the home in Salina; brother John Westhusin of Salina; step sons John Drayer of Hays, Jason Drayer of Hays, Jeff Drayer of Salina; four grandchildren Lyndsay and Sydney Westhusin, Adam and Savannah Ewing; and 1 great granddaughter Amariya. He was preceded in death by a son Terrance “Terry” Westhusin and his father. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery with military honors provided by the Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Visitation will be 3 p.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. – service time Thursday at the funeral chapel. A Parish Vigil service will be 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans Association and may be sent in care of the Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel, 409 S. Cochran, Plainville, Kansas 67663.
