Marjorie J. Conn

Marjorie J. Conn passed away Sunday morning, February 7, 2016 at the Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton, Kansas at the age of 94. She was born November 1, 1921 in Hays, Kansas to the late Everett and Ollie (Wasson) Yoxall. On November 27, 1941 she was united in marriage to Glenn Conn at her parent’s home on Medicine Creek in Rooks County, Kansas. They were blessed with four children, Douglas, Martha, Les and Shelly. When Marjorie wasn’t working with Glenn in Glenn’s AG Grocery Store, she was busy raising her family and taking care of her home. She also worked at the USDA office for 10 years, and owned and operated an antique store in Stockton. Always a loving wife and mother, friend and neighbor, she was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Stockton, and belonged to the P.E.O. Sisterhood. Her love of nature, education, and the arts, created a passion for painting, especially landscapes, and led to her memberships in Palette Pals and the Palco Art Club. She was also a 4-H and Cub Scout Leader. Marjorie is survived by her daughters Martha Zwahlen and husband Chuck of Owasso, OK, and Shelly Schneider and husband Dave of Leawood; sons Douglas Conn of Stockton and Les Conn and wife Susan of The Villages, FL; brother Joe Yoxall of Philipsburg; sister-in-law Elaine Yoxall of Wichita; brother-in-law Marvin Conn of Humble, TX; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Everett and Ollie Yoxall, husband Glenn Conn, brothers Don and Edward Yoxall, sisters-in-law Marvel and Norma Yoxall, daughter-in-law Mary Conn, and a great-grandson Logan Douglas Conn. The work of an artist always begins in the heart. Marjorie wasn’t just a painter of landscapes, she was a painter of lives. From her heart to ours, she painted every day by loving, encouraging, leading, and serving her family, friends, and neighbors. The countless canvasses she created on our hearts will forever shape our lives because they were touched by her loving hands. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, February 12, 2016 at the Stockton United Methodist Church with burial following in Ash Rock Cemetery north of Woodston. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home with family receiving friends from 6:00-7:30.
