Marilyn Kaye Simon

December 29, 1959 — December 5, 2014

Marilyn Kaye Simon passed away December 5, 2014 at the family home near Plainville, Kansas at the age of 54 years, 11 months, and 5 days. She was born December 29, 1959 in Plainville to Delbert and Charlotte (Ball) Ostrom. Marilyn graduated from Plainville High School with the Class of 1978 and earned a Licensed Practical Nurse Degree from North Central Kansas Vocational Technical School in Beloit, Kansas. On April 16, 1982 she was united in marriage to Michael Simon in Hays, Kansas. To this union was born one son, Chad Michael. For a number of years Marilyn worked for the Plainville Clinic and later at the Plainville Insurance Agency. However, she eventually returned to her true passion as a Home Health and Hospice Nurse. Through her gift of comforting and caring for the sick, she made life-long friendships with patients, families, and co-workers. Later she went to Hays Medical Center in the Patient Accounts Department, and in 2013 returned to Rooks County Health Center in the Cardiac Rehabilitation Department where she continued to touch the lives of the many people she helped. Marilyn was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville. She was a member and volunteer for the Rooks County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, RCHC Auxiliary Scholarship, RCHC Foundation, and the Tree Lighting Committee. In addition, she was a member of the Gamma Alpha Chapter of ESA where she held several offices over the years, 4-H Leader, and the Sacred Heart Guild. She loved and was loved by those who knew her. Marilyn is survived by her husband Mike of the home; son Chad Simon and Aimee Gardanier of Plainville; parents Delbert and Charlotte Ostrom of Plainville; twin sister Carolyn “Jo” Ward and husband Burl of Aurora, CO; sister Karen Moeder of Oakley; brothers Mike Ostrom and wife Peggy of Chanute, Terry Ostrom and wife Kay of Ahwatukee, AZ, and Curtis Ostrom and wife Adel of Mt. Holly, NC; aunt Sue Gum of Pueblo, CO; uncles Larry Ostrom of Concordia, and Wesley Ostrom of New Madison, OH; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; and a host of extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Edward and Lola Ostrom, maternal grandparents Ralph and Bertha Ball, and uncle David Ball, all of Concordia. Marilyn had a great gift of love and care for others. Her quick wit, friendly smile, and generous heart will be missed by everyone whose life she touched. She leaves a legacy and impact that will be felt for generations to come, and she will live forever in our hearts and memories.
