Marcella T. Hickert

Marcella Theresa Hickert, 87, passed away Monday, September 21, 2026, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas on the anniversary of her daughter, Diane's passing.

She was born on Saturday, October 1, 1938, in McCook, Nebraska, along with her twin sister, Majella to Theresa (Mannebach) and Hilary Boor. Marcella graduated from Sheridan Community High School in Hoxie in 1956. On April 11, 1959, she became the bride of Gerald Henry Hickert in Seguin, KS, a marriage spanning 61 years. Jerry passed in May of 2020. To this union, three children were born: Debra, Darrell and Diane.

Jerry and Marcella farmed southeast of Jennings for 33 years and her days were filled with all the busyness of raising children and being a homemaker on the farm. She was a most excellent cook and seamstress and enjoyed growing a large vegetable garden every year. In 1992 they retired and relocated to Hays. After the passing of Jerry and Diane, and as Marcella experienced health challenges, she became a resident of Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton in November of 2025.

Marcella never missed a chance to tell someone about Jesus, and she and Jerry hosted many Bible studies in their home.

Survivors include her children, Debra Dix of Stockton and Darrell Hickert of Oberlin; four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Majella (Fred) Hickert of Hays and Jeannie Patterson of Seneca; brother, Leon (Mary Jo) Boor of Abilene; sisters-in-law, Susan Boor of Hutchinson and Charlene Goscha of Wichita; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; daughter, Diane Hickert; daughter-in-law, Shirley Hickert; sister, Luella Linnebur; brothers, Harold Boor and Marvin Boor; sisters-in-law, Leona Boor, Noreen Crabill and Patricia Stephens; brothers-in-law, Jerry Patterson, Wayne Linnebur, Quinten Hickert, Bernard Kaus, Verl Crabill, Gilbert Campbell, Louis Collins, Vic Goscha and Red Stephens; five nephews; and other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, October 17, 2026, 11:00 a.m. at River Valley Church, 120 S. Spruce, Stockton. Visitation will be held Friday 1-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Stockton. Private inurnment will take place at a later date in Fort Hays Memorial Gardens near her husband, Jerry and daughter, Diane.
