Lucille Ochampaugh, age 102, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at Red Bud Village in Plainville, Kansas. She was born on October 13, 1916 to William and Gertrude Kammerer in Weldona, Colorado. Lucille was united in marriage to Donald Ochampaugh in 1938. She spent her life in the Rooks County area where she and Donald raised their three boys: Earl, James, and Clifford. Lucille attended school in the Weldona Valley area of the Platte River Basin. She furthered her education through the Greeley Teachers College and later Kansas State University where she graduated with her Bachelor Degree right alongside her son Clifford in 1967. After graduating from Kansas State University, she continued to learn by broadening her knowledge through workshops and enrichment courses. Her entire working life was dedicated to expanding the minds of young people. Even after retiring from her teaching career, she continued her dedication by focusing on the betterment of senior citizens and young people whenever possible. Lucille was a devoted family woman and Christian. She will forever be remembered by her desire to educate others, her genuine kindness to all that crossed her path, and the endless love for her family. Those left to cherish her memories are her sons, Earl Ochampaugh and family of Garden City, and James Ochampaugh and family of Plainville; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lucille is preceded in death by her husband Donald Ochampaugh; son Clifford Ochampaugh; parents, William and Gertrude Kammerer; and siblings, Jim Kammerer and Dorothy Clark. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 30, at 3:00 P.M. at the United Methodist Church in Plainville with burial to follow at the Stockton Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2019 from 3:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M with family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home in Plainville. Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church (Youth Programs) or Redbud Village and may be sent in care of Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, 320 SW 2nd St, Plainville, KS 67663.
