Lorene Elizabeth Hake

June 21, 1920 — July 23, 2015

Lorene Elizabeth (Rempe) Hake passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at the Redbud Village in Plainville, Kansas at the age of 95. She was born on Monday, June 21, 1920 in Plainville, the third of five children and only daughter, to the late Herman Joseph and Dorothy Agnes (Vohs) Rempe. She was baptized on June 28, 1920. Lorene grew up with on the family farm three miles east of Plainville, attended Sacred Heart Grade School and graduated from Plainville High School with the Class of 1936. She attended Marymount College in Salina, Kansas to prepare for her career in nursing, completing her training at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Lorene was inducted into the United States Army Nurse Corps on April 22, 1943 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas proudly serving during WWII and attaining the rank of First Lieutenant. On September 12, 1943 she embarked from Camp Kilmer, New Jersey for service overseas in Newton Abbot, England and Glasgow, Scotland with the 316th Station Hospital Group. On December 29, 1956 she was united in marriage to Arnold B. Hake at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville. They made their home in Houston, Texas where she was employed by Maxwell House Coffee. Together they adopted two sons, John and William Hake. They returned to Plainville following retirement. Lorene was a member of the Sacred Heart Ladies Guild as well as the Daughters of Isabella. She was an officer for the VFW Post #8871 of Plainville, serving as Quartermaster from 1983 until 1995 and was pleased to stand in the Honor Guard for fallen comrades at funerals and during Memorial Day Services. Lorene is survived by four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Herman and Dorothy Rempe, husband Arnold Hake, sons John and William Hake, and brothers Leo, Harold, Louis, and Clarence Rempe. For Lorene life was truly about family and friends. She loved the holidays, when she could cook, play games, and spend time with the people she loved the most. Although she is gone for now, she will live forever in our hearts until we see her again in glory. Reception: Knights of Columbus Hall
