Lila May Baldwin

July 26, 1919 — April 23, 2014

Lila May Baldwin passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Rooks County Health Center in Plainville at the age of 94. She was born July 26, 1919 to Fred and Ethel (Hedge) Eichman on the family farm in rural Graham County, Kansas. She attended local schools and graduated from Palco High School with the class of 1939. She received her teaching certificate and taught at Brown Rural School on the Redline for a couple years. She was united in marriage to Ora Otis Baldwin on May 6, 1946 at Colby, Kansas. They were blessed with two sons, Larry and Steve. Lila worked for the First National Bank in Palco for several years before staying home and taking care of her family. She will be remembered as a wonderful cook. Those pies and homemade noodles will not be forgotten. As the “Official Family Historian,” Lila loved scrapbooking. She collected, organized, and kept photos, lists, and lineages that family and friends will enjoy for generations to come. For fun, you could always find her playing games or doing puzzles, especially with the grandkids, who were truly the light of her life. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Larry and wife Karen of Palco and Steve and wife Thea of Plainville; sisters, Ellenora Meyer and husband Truman of Newton and Betty Kay of Beaverton, Oregon; 7 grandchildren, Mindi Blokzyl and husband Casey, Craig Baldwin, Tammy Devero, Amy Williams, Alexandra Brewster and husband Joey, Aryn Gosser and husband Lance, and Justin Lacy; and 9 great-grandchildren. Lila was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Ethel Eichman; husband, Ora Otis; brothers, Virgil, Cleo, Herman, Clarence, and Lawrence Eichman; sisters, Beulah Turner and infant Iola Eichman. Lila’s tireless love and devotion to her family and friends leaves an eternal inspiration and legacy. By her example she taught us how to live, laugh, and love as we endure life’s challenges and celebrate life’s joys together. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
