Leonard A. Mattas

Leonard A. Mattas, 86, passed away August 6, 2015 at Golden Living Center in Wilson, Kansas. He was born September 7, 1928 on the family farm in Ellsworth County, the son of Anton and Matilda (Soukup) Mattas. A lifetime resident of Wilson, Leonard was a farmer and rancher. He served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 then granted an Honorable Discharge. He was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wilson, Knights of Columbus Council #1924 in Wilson, Wilson American Legion Post #262, life member of Russell V.F.W. Post #6240, and served on the Board of Directors for AGCO in Russell. On April 10, 1956 he married Irene Demel at Holy Family Church in Odin. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Mike Mattas and wife Mary of Wilson; daughter Norma Schneweis and husband David of Claflin; brother Raymond Mattas of Russell; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two daughters; Nancy Mattas in 1968 and Mary Mattas in 1979. Vigil with Knights of Columbus Rosary will be Friday, August 7, 2015 at 7:00pm at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wilson. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00am Saturday, August 8, 2015 at the church celebrated by Fr. Mathew Chacko. Burial will follow in the St. Wenceslaus Church Cemetery with Fort Riley Honor Guard, Russell V.F.W. Post #6240, and Wilson American Legion Post #262.
