Lela Elizabeth Pennybaker passed away peacefully on Monday morning, June 11, 2012 at the Redbud Village Nursing Home in Plainville, KS at the age of 98. She was born September 3, 1913 in Wamble, Arkansas to Orren and Bertha Ellen (Hook) Henderson. As a young girl Lela went to elementary school in Texceda, Oklahoma, high school in Dewey Oklahoma, and one year college in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Her first job was at Sears and Roebuck. Then she worked in the office at the telephone company and Phillips Petroleum until 1965 when Charles got out of the service. On November 11, 1933, Lela and John Charles Pennybaker were united in marriage in Nowata, Oklahoma. They were married 49 years. Lela was a faithful member of the First Christian Church in Plainville for many years. She loved to read and enjoyed sewing, fishing, and visiting with friends. She is survived by two nieces, Aldena Lee Farnsworth of Davenport, Iowa and Carol Elaine Bryant and husband John of McAlester, Oklahoma; two nephews, Terry Orren Snyder of Brunswick, Ohio and Eldon Dean Stark and wife Jan of Crane, Missouri; and dear friends Chuck and Shirley Eichman of Zurich, Kansas. Lela was preceded in death by her husband on December 23, 1982, and her sisters, Cleva Marie Stark and Aldena Pearl Farris. Services of remembrance are planned for 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 16, 2012 at the First Christian Church in Plainville, Kansas with Pastor Michael McCrickard officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery near Palco, KS. Visitation will be on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the family receiving friends from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church and may be sent in care of Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel, 409 S.
