Leann Loree Weinhold

October 9, 1939 — December 19, 2019

Leann LoRee (Strom) Weinhold, 80, formerly of McPherson, passed into the loving arm of her Lord December 19, 2019 at her home in Idaho Falls, ID., after several years of failing health. She was born in Clay Center, KS on October 9, 1939 to Harvey William and Ardna LoRee (Conger) Strom, of rural Morganville, KS. Leann attended elementary school in Bazine, Hays, Cheney, and Geneseo, KS, graduating in 1957 from Belleville High School, Belleville, KS. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Fort Hays State University in 1961. Leann was a member of Fort Hays State Band, Brass Choir, Campus Boosters, Custer Hall President, Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority and Sigma Alpha Iota Woman’s Professional Music Fraternity. While in college, Leann met the love of her life, Harold (Harry) Weinhold. They were married on August 16, 1959 at the United Methodist Church, Belleville, KS. Leann taught elementary school in the Hays, KS, McCook, NE, North Kansas City, MO and McPherson, KS school systems. She was a very loving and devoted teacher who, over the years, had a positive influence on her students’ lives. Leann enjoyed keeping in touch with many of her former students and always had a special place in her heart for them. After retiring in 2002, Leann continued to substitute teach until 2008. At that time, Harold and Leann moved to Idaho Falls, ID, to be able to enjoy being devoted grandparents to their grandson, Isaac, and twin granddaughters, Paige and Claire. Leann was a member of the American Baptist Church and enjoyed singing in the choir. She was a fan of K-State football and basketball, and the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals. Leann had a very big heart and was passionate about helping her family members. Family history was important to her and she was enjoying the restoration of her maternal grandparent’s farm. She was preceded in death by her mother and brothers, Larry and Glen Strom. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, of the home; daughter Beth Boettcher (Chris); grandson Isaac Boettcher; and granddaughters Paige and Claire Boettcher, all of Idaho Falls, ID.; son Sam, Olathe, KS; granddaughter Samantha Goodwin (Ryan), Lee’s Summit, MO; sisters Gayle Broberg, Great Bend, KS and Sherrie Smith, Hays, KS; nephews Aaron Broberg, Salina, KS, and Austin Schmeidler (Jessica); and great-niece Brittnay Schmeidler, all of Hays, KS. A private family interment service was held December 31, 2019 at the Conger Cemetery, located next to their family farm, rural Codell, Kansas. Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, Plainville, handled the services.
