Lauren L. Burkhead, 89, died on April 16, 2015 at Good Samaritan Society in Minneapolis, Kansas. Born on December 14, 1925 in Utica, Kansas, he was the son of Maurice and Leota (McKinley) Burkhead. He spent his early years in Utica, then moved to Wilson, Kansas with his family as a teenager. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1943 and attended Kansas State University until he was called to serve in the United States Army during World War II. He met Edna Zelenka and they were united in marriage on November 25, 1947 in Salina. Lauren was a salesman for Salina Coffee House for over 20 years. He was an avid golfer, an accomplished woodworker, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Surviving family includes his wife, Edna of Minneapolis; son Leland (Janice) of Kansas City, MO; daughter, Lana Jurczewsky of Minneapolis; granddaughter Amy Wolverton of Washington, D.C.; grandson Jason (Carla) Burkhead of Anchorage, AK; great grandson Dylan Burkhead of Anchorage, AK; and brother Cloyd of Mesa, AZ. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, William Jurczewsky.
