Lafern L. Prediger

LaFern Louise (Kaufman) Prediger, or as family and friends called her, “Fernnie”, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2014 in Salina, Kansas at the age of 90. She was born January 3, 1924 on the family farm south of Dorrance in Russell County, Kansas to Carl and Carrie (Cook) Kaufman. She was the third of seven children. LaFern married LeRoy Prediger on August 19, 1943 in Russell, Kansas and later made their home in Russell, Ellsworth and Topeka, Kansas. After the death of LeRoy she moved to Salina in 1997. LaFern was a seamstress and homemaker and was involved in many activities. She enjoyed cross stitching and other handy work and baking banana bread and other baked goods for gifts. She and LeRoy were high rollers in bowling and traveled often. She very much enjoyed attending sporting events and watching sports on television. Family reunions, holidays and visiting family and friends were always very special to her. When she went to the nursing home all the visits and calls were so important to her and made her long days better. LaFern is survived by three sisters, Dorothy Bay of Russell, Kansas, Leona Champion of San Jose, California, and Carol Herber of Salina, Kansas; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband LeRoy; parents, Carl and Carrie Kaufman; two brothers, Lloyd and Orville; and sister, Helen Stickney. Whether she was answering to LaFern, Fernnie, or Aunt LaFern, one thing was for certain, she was having fun with the people she loved. Sometimes stubborn, sometimes funny, but always joyful, Fernnie leaves her friends and family with memories that will last forever.
