Mass of Christian Burial for Catherine “Katie” Dauwe, age 94, of Plainville will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 5, 2010 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Galen Long as Celebrant. Mrs. Dauwe passed away Friday, July 2, 2010 at the Redbud Village in Plainville. She was born July 4, 1915 in Russell County, Kansas the daughter of Antone and Anna Barbara (Schmidtberger) Hammersmith. Mrs. Dauwe was a homemaker and helped her husband farm. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Ladies Guild, was a charter member of the Daughters of Isabella all in Plainville. Katie enjoyed quilting, baking, cooking wedding and anniversary dinners and helping with anything for the benefit of the church. Katie married Burgess Hollar. He passed away during WWII on April 1, 1944. She then married Johnie F. Dauwe on June 19, 1954 in Plainville. He passed away November 15, 1997. Survivors include her daughter Barbara and husband John Couse of Plainville; 14 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband’s Burgess Hollar and Johnie Dauwe; grandson Jason Couse; parents; 8 brothers; 2 sisters and a grandson in law Daniel A. Christensen, Jr. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel. A Ladies Guild Rosary will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the chapel. A Parish Vigil Service will be 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening followed by a Daughters of Isabella Rosary all at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Sacred Heart School or Hays Medical Center Home Health & Hospice and may be sent in care of the Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel, 409 S. Cochran, Plainville, Kansas 67663. Condolences may be sent to the family on our send your condolences link.
